Analysing Conventions of Film Social Media Pages - 'Cruella'

There are a range of social media platforms which have been used to promote Disney's 'Cruella', each following the layout and format of the specific platform. I have looked at the Instagram and Facebook pages for the film.

The 'Cruella' Instagram page is laid out in 'tiles', each with an image from the film, or an image promoting some of the awards the film was nominated for. Each tile has lots of comments from viewers, with emojis. There are different buttons on the menu bar, which also feature images and videos in different categories.

The 'Cruella' Facebook page is laid out with a banner at the top (currently promoting the film's DVD/Blu-ray release) and with a menu bar which gives users the opportunity to look at/post videos and images. The Facebook page has a tiled section of photos on display (similar to those on Instagram) and the platform features lots of videos (trailers for 'Cruella' but also for other Disney films) and posters for the film.

After analysing and looking at these pages, it is easy to see that Disney is encouraging social interaction for example, the use of share buttons meaning the audience shares information for the film and is able to comment/like any of the posts. In the digital age, audiences are key to distribution and enjoy blurring the traditional lines between producers (or distributors) and audiences.
